Payroll Specialist

Purpose of position

This position supports Crossroads Christian Communications and YES TV team members by ensuring that compensation and employment administrative matters are handled professionally, with attention to accuracy and confidentiality. Responsibilities

  1. Process semi-monthly payroll for several compensation models – salary, hourly, and various shifts for Crossroads and YES TV.
  2. Coordinate and complete year-end reports such as T4 and T2200 and filings.
  3. Work with Dayforce configuration set up to drive innovation.
  4. Complete a variety of payroll and other payroll-related reports.

Specific Job Duties

  1. Calculate, post, and audit payroll information.
  2. Monitor and ensure time and attendance entries are accurate and completed.
  3. Maintain detailed digital files and record-keeping systems to ensure accurate and complete documentation of payroll/personnel transactions.
  4. Make changes to employee information for existing employees and enter information for new employees.
  5. Prepare payroll reports for the finance department.
  6. Prepare cheque requisitions for payments.
  7. Calculate WSIB payments.
  8. Send out reminders or other communications to employees.
  9. Assist employees with addressing any issues within the Time and Attendance system of record – Dayforce.
  10. Generate year-end and ad hoc reports.
  11. Assist with onboarding new employees, summer students, interns, and volunteers.
  12. Maintain vacation accrual records and annual vacation entitlement spreadsheet.
  13. Assist auditors by providing requested information during annual audits.
  14. Other duties as required.

Qualifications and experience

  1. Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) Certificate.
  2. Minimum of 3 years full cycle Canadian payroll experience.
  3. Experience calculating special payments such as termination and severance, overtime, retro, and statutory holiday pay, and a full understanding of taxable and non-taxable benefits.
  4. Experience providing administrative support in a high-volume environment.
  5. Previous work in a federally regulated environment is preferred.
  6. Understanding of the Canada Labour Code as it relates to payroll regulations.
  7. Comprehensive knowledge of payroll legislative requirements with agencies such as the Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and the Ministry of Finance relating to Employer Health Tax.
