Around 150,000 children went to Residential Schools and over 4000 died during the process.

On the first day at residential school, survivor Phyllis Jack Webstad wore her shiny new orange shirt, bought by her grandmother. She loved it! However, it was taken from her as a six-year old girl at the school.

September 30th was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes and forced onto a plane, bus or truck and sent to residential schools.

As a faith based organization, we have an incredible honour and responsibility to share the burden of making wrongs right. Orange Shirt Day allows us all to gain a greater understanding of past atrocities in order to move forward.
