“Gracious King” Unites Diverse Voices in Powerful New Canadian Worship Anthem
Crossroads’ Royal Anthems Project announces the release of its new single, “Gracious King,” on January 10, 2025. This marks the seventh release from Royal Anthems, following a songwriting camp held last spring at Crossroads Unity Commons in Burlington, ON.
Written by Sebastian Demrey (Montreal), Terrance Richmond (Surrey), and Kylie Berry (Toronto), “Gracious King” is an upbeat anthem that features a powerful chorus declaring, “Since the day my grave was opened, I walked out alive,” embodying themes of resurrection and new beginnings.
Co-produced by award-winning artists Joel Auge (Crossroads’ Chief Growth Officer) and Sebastian Demrey (Heritage, Expressions de Louanges), alongside Luis Vargas (Hope Bible Church), this song unites diverse perspectives that reflect the richness of Canadian worship.
The Royal Anthems project, initiated by Crossroads, aims to unite worship leaders across Canada, fostering collaboration that reflects the nation’s cultural mosaic. “This song comes from an image of being adopted in the King’s family,” says Sebastian, whose previous album reached #1 on Canadian Christian charts. “My prayer for the next decade is for more unity and more diversity in the church of Canada, and I’m proud to watch Royal Anthems build that. This song is a great example of that unity and diversity coming together.”
Terrance, Lead Pastor of LoveQuest International Church in Surrey, BC, brings his Oakland, CA roots and gospel influences to the project. A former professional baseball player for the Los Angeles Angels, Richmond’s journey from athlete to pastor and church planter in Canada adds a unique dimension to the collaboration. “There’s a victory that the church has to learn to embrace,” he says. “If the church is to reach our cities and communities, we need a confident bride that’s walking out of the grave alive.”
Kylie, who serves as both a worship leader and speaking pastor at People Church, one of Toronto’s vibrant, multicultural churches, adds: “There is a great responsibility in the words we put into the mouths of our congregations. This song is meant for the whole body to sing in celebration, breaking chains and making worship their weapon.”
“Gracious King” will be available on all major streaming platforms on January 10th, 2025.
