The Plan of Salvation
The Bad News: Humanity’s Problem
The Problem: Sin
Every person is a sinner before a holy God and incapable of saving themselves. The Bible declares:
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
The Penalty: Death
The consequence of sin is spiritual death, which is eternal separation from God. This began when sin entered the world through Adam and affects all of humanity:
"Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned." (Romans 5:12)
The Good News: God’s Solution
The Provision: Christ’s Sacrifice
God, in His infinite love, provided a solution through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ. Jesus bore the penalty for our sin so we could be reconciled to God:
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
The Pardon: Eternal Life Through Faith
God offers forgiveness and eternal life as a free gift to anyone who places their faith in Jesus.
"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9-10)
A Prayer of Salvation
If you feel God drawing you to Himself, you can pray this prayer of salvation:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving me even while I was a sinner. I acknowledge that I have sinned and fallen short of Your glory (Romans 3:23). I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life (Romans 5:8). I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9-10).
I now place my trust in You alone for my salvation and receive the forgiveness and eternal life You offer. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
A Prayer for Someone Else’s Salvation
Heavenly Father,
In the name of Jesus, I come boldly to Your throne of grace to lift up _______ to You. Your Word says, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16).
You know every emotion they are feeling and the challenges they are facing. As Your Word promises in Psalm 147:3, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” I ask You, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, to comfort and reveal Yourself to them. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
Jesus, You are “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6), and I ask that You reveal the truth of who You are to _______. Nothing is hidden from Your sight, as Psalm 139:1-2 says: “You have searched me, Lord, and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar.” So, I ask that You touch ______, pour out Your love into their heart, and fill them with a hope that never disappoints, as promised in Romans 5:5: “And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Open their heart to Your light, Lord, as Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:18: “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you.” Create a sense of their need for You and lead them to hear and believe the good news of the Gospel. Send laborers into their life to share Your Word, as Jesus instructed in Matthew 9:37-38: “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.”
I pray that ______ would trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding. May they acknowledge You in all their ways, as promised in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Father, I thank You for Your desire that none should perish but that all should come to repentance, as stated in 2 Peter 3:9: “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
I believe that You are the God of all mankind and that nothing is too hard for You. Jeremiah 32:27 says, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me?” I trust that You can do exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think, as promised in Ephesians 3:20: “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.”
Thank You for pursuing ______ with Your love. I pray all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
