A Prayer for the Marriages of Others
Heavenly Father,
In the name of Jesus, we come boldly to Your throne of grace, lifting up __________ & __________ and their marriage before You, as Your Word encourages us in Hebrews 4:16 (NIV): “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
You know every emotion that __________ & __________ are feeling. You are the One who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds, as it is written in Psalm 147:3 (NIV): “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” We call upon You as the Father of Compassion and the God of all Comfort, trusting in Your Word in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV): “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
Father, You Know All Things
Nothing is hidden from Your sight, Lord. You know every detail of the struggles and issues facing __________ & __________. Your Word in Psalm 139:1-4 (NIV) declares: “You have searched me, Lord, and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue You, Lord, know it completely.”
We ask, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, that You would touch their hearts. Pour out Your love into their hearts and fill them with hope that will never disappoint, as promised in Romans 5:5 (NIV): “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
Guide Them to Godly Help and Wisdom
We pray that You unite their hearts in seeking help from a pastor or godly counselor filled with Your wisdom. Lead them to trust in You with all their hearts, not leaning on their own understanding. May they acknowledge You in all their ways, knowing that You will direct their paths, as it says in Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Forgiveness and Restoration
If there is any unforgiveness or hurt, we ask that You grant __________ & __________ forgiving hearts, helping them to extend grace to one another, just as You have forgiven them. Let the healing power of forgiveness restore their relationship, as instructed in Colossians 3:13 (NIV): “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Faith in Your Power
We believe that You are the God of all humanity, the One for whom nothing is too hard. Your Word in Jeremiah 32:27 (NIV) says, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” We trust that You are able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ask or imagine, as promised in Ephesians 3:20 (NIV): “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.”
Clothe Them in Your Virtues
In faith, we pray Colossians 3:12-15 (NIV) over this couple: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
Thanksgiving and Confidence
We give thanks, Lord, for all You have done and will do in the lives of __________ & __________. May Your love and peace reign in their hearts and home. Thank You for being faithful and for working all things together for their good, as promised in Romans 8:28 (NIV): “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
