Recently, in a candid conversation with their son, Tim Shaw, CEO of Shaw Almex Industries, about growing up with missionary parents, he shared, “I can remember at any given moment there’d be a parade of people from Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, or Japan coming through our house from various missions they were supporting.” But Shaw admits that life as a missionary kid can offer some complexities that are perhaps unique to ministry: “As a teenager, I didn’t understand why they gave so freely to strangers yet gave so sparingly to themselves and their children. One Christmas, having discerned my pent-up frustration for hosting thirty Asian students, and widows, over Christmas break, [my mom] turned to me quoting Galatians 6:9, “Let us not grow weary while doing good,” — Tim, you are blessed beyond comprehension.”
