Amazing Turnout for Crossroads’ Virtual VBS on Castle

When COVID-19 led to summer camps being cancelled, it was sad news for children’s ministries and camps. Many activities were halted and moved to online platforms.

Crossroads received generous support allowing families from Canada, USA, and even in China, Nigeria, and Trinidad to attend our first Virtual Vacation Bible School on Castle.

Over $54,000 was raised in support through our generous donors, allowing us to host our very first Virtual Vacation Bible School this summer. On the week of August 10th, over 3,500 registered campers attended Bible learning, worship and fun activities that we had planned.

Host of HEY MEISHA!, Meisha Watson hosted full days of worship and Bible study. Kids learned daily Bible verses and participated in exciting activities, including:

Compassion Cupcakes – that the campers were encouraged to share
Gratitude Boards – reflections of all the parts of their lives that they can be thankful for, even during this difficult time
Baking Courage Crumble – ‘Instead of crumbling in fear, we eat crumble instead!’ Campers learned that feeling afraid is natural, but that God wants us to be courageous, and he is our greatest source of courage.
Finally, we capped off the event with a virtual Praise Party event, where kids joined us to celebrate an amazing VBS week.

Now, the fun doesn’t stop there! Every camper received a ‘HEY MEISHA! Activity Magazine’ to continue learning more about the Bible in a fun and engaging way.

We believe that kids need quiet time, so we also ran a Pillow Fort competition. Building a Pillow Fort was a fun way to inspire kids to spend time with God in a cozy place of their own, complete with scripture verses and reminders of God’s love posted to their walls. We had over 500 families submit photos of their pillow forts!

We need to continue to invest in the generations following us. There are so many ways that the world wants to take Jesus out of the conversation, but we are tasked with the mission of ensuring that every child we reach has a personal relationship with God.
