Crossroads Viewers Donate over $750,000 for Haiti in first 30 daysGovernment matching and partnering strategies to multiply effect of funds givenBURLINGTON, ONTARIO - February 24, 2010. Within hours of the January 12th earthquake in Haiti, the Crossroads Missions Department mobilized its Haiti partnering networks and used its television presence to convey the situation to the generous viewers and partners of 100 Huntley Street across Canada. Soon thereafter, the Federal Government announced its intention to match private citizen donations given to approved charities for 30 days following the disaster. The 100 Huntley Street family was quick to respond with total donations of $752,120 by February 12th. CTS, the Global Television Network and Vision TV cooperatively carried the Crossroads 100 Huntley Street Special “Help For Haiti” sharing the appeal with millions of viewers. Some of the funds raised were used for immediate emergency relief to the Haitian people through trusted relationships that are present and active in Haiti. The remainder will fund strategic projects involving partners with various specialties such as Compassion Canada (children), Health Partners International of Canada (medical supplies), and Clean Water for Haiti (ongoing water supply) and others. These efforts will help the longer-term recovery and rebuilding process for the Haitians affected. In addition, Crossroads works diligently to multiply the impact of donations made. David Shelley, the Director of Crossroads Missions explains, “We were thrilled that eligible private citizen gifts for Haiti relief of $712,000 were matched by the Federal Government giving an immediate doubling effect. In our new projects the funds may be matched by other grants as well, increasing their impact as high as 3 or 4 times.” This multiplication effect helps Crossroads donors maximize their help for the people of Haiti. 100 Huntley Street will carry on-air updates on the needs of the Haitian people and how donated funds are being used to help. Donations continue to be received online at www.crossroads.ca and by calling toll free 1-800-265-3100. The “Help For Haiti” TV special can be viewed online For further information contact:
