What Scripture Says
"When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick" (Matthew 8:16)."And Jesus rebuked the demon, and he came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour" (Matthew 17:18).
"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover" (Mark 16:16-18).
"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Matthew 26:41).
"For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin" (Romans 7:14).
How To Obtain Deliverance
You must recognize your need and discern the root of the problem. Our warfare is with the forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). Our armour is truth, righteousness, preparation to witness to the Gospel, faith and salvation. Our weapon is the Word of God. The battle is one involving prayer (Ephesians 6:14-18). Our authority and power is from Jesus Himself (Mark 16:17; Acts 1:8). The battlefield is in the spiritual realm.Ask someone such as your pastor, a Crossroads prayer partner or another Spirit-filled person to agree with you in prayer and stand with you against any demonic influence. Ask him/her to seek the Lord on your behalf for discernment concerning your need. We often enter into bondage because of yielding to fleshly desires (Galatians 5:19-21). If your bondage is discerned as demonic, ask your prayer partner to take authority in the name of Jesus, claiming God's protection for you and others in the vicinity. Ask him/her to bind the demons, revealed and unrevealed. When they are commanded to loose you and come out of you, in Jesus' name, they must go where God sends them.
With your prayer partner (and when you are at home and at church), spend time in praise to God, giving Him pre-eminence in the matter. Call on Him to send His angels to help you (Hebrews 1:14).
Seek fellowship with Spirit-filled Christians. Bible study is also very important (2 Timothy 2:15). A renewed mind will transform you and help you to overcome (Romans 12:2). Attend a Spirit-filled church for further help and spiritual growth (Hebrews 10:25). If you are not presently attending a church and need some assistance, please feel free to contact the Crossroads Ministry Centre for a referral to a good one in your area.
To stay free, you need to receive both forgiveness of sin and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord to baptize you. He will keep His promise when you ask (Luke 11:13). For understanding and prayer to receive the Holy Spirit, ask your pastor, Crossroads prayer partner, or another Spirit-filled Christian to agree with you in prayer.
Seven Steps To Freedom
From The Bondage Breaker by Neil T. Anderson- Renounce any involvement with the occult or false religions as a counterfeit to the truth and ask God to forgive you.
- Confess any form of deception in your life and be willing to speak and live and believe the truth.
- Forgive anyone who has hurt you. It is a choice, a crisis of the will. Ask God to forgive you for harbouring bitterness and resentment.
- Ask God to forgive you for rebellion and be willing to be submissive to those in authority over you and to God.
- Ask God to forgive you for pride which says I can do it alone. I can get myself out of my problems myself.
- Confess all known sin.
- Renounce the sins of your ancestors and any curses that may have been put on you.
How To Pray
If you are in bondage to sin, confess and repent of any sin in your life which has you bound, asking God to forgive you. You will never be set free until you confront and deal with your sin at the cross (Romans 6:23; 1 John 1:8,9; John 8:36).If demonic bondage is discerned, pray in agreement with another person who is a Christian. Satan and his demons should be bound in Jesus' name (Luke 10:17). Be firm and bold in your determination to be free (1 John 4:4).
Minister praise to God until the victory comes, the burden is lifted, and Satan has fled (Psalm 150:1-6).
