Abortion

Since the Bible states that children are God's heritage and His reward, it is wrong to take the life of an unborn child. As the following scriptures reveal, the giving and taking of life is God's prerogative.

"You shall not murder" (Deut. 5:17).

"Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is His reward" (
Psalm 127:3).

"He grants the barren woman a home, like a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord"
(Psalm 113:9).

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose"
(Romans 8:28).

Yet there can be great turmoil with an unwanted pregnancy. You may be ashamed because the child you are carrying was conceived outside of marriage. Or maybe you have no desire for a child, and the financial and emotional burdens you anticipate. Or perhaps you have already had an abortion and now feel guilty about it.

If You Are Considering An Abortion

Abortion is not an option. It is murder. But don't despair. There are no hopeless situations with God.

Decide to have your baby. God will redeem the situation, just as He did for Joseph. Joseph's brothers meant to kill him, but God preserved him and used the sequence of events to save an entire nation. In Genesis 45:7, Joseph explains to his brothers how God was able to turn bad circumstances around for good: "And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance."

Perhaps you are carrying a child from an illegitimate union. Many of us have family members or friends who would not be alive today if unwanted children had been aborted. The life within you is a precious gift from God.

If You Had An Abortion

If you have had an abortion, you may feel burdened with the guilt of having taken a life. But be encouraged by the fact that some of the greatest Biblical heroes were guilty of having taken lives. They repented and God forgave them.

Paul consented to the murder of Stephen, yet after his conversion became the apostle to the Gentiles. Moses and King David were also murderers. They repented, as did Paul, and God forgave them. In fact, they became the greatest of God's men ever known.

For although God despises murder just as He does any sin, He loved those men. And He loves you too. If you are truly sorry and confess your sin to Him, He will forgive you and cleanse you of it (1 John 1:9). God has a great love for you, even now. The Bible says that in Christ, old things (sins) pass away. All things become new. Your sins will not be remembered by God once you have truly repented and turned your life over to Christ (Isaiah 43:25).

There Is Hope

Call on Jesus, confessing your sin, and receive Him as your Saviour and Lord (Romans 10:13; 1 John l:9; John 1:12).

Ask Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). You will receive the ability you need to begin living a victorious, happy life (Ephesians 6:10-18). Then, as you begin to help other people through your life and testimony, you will discover a new fulfillment and unspeakable joy of living for others instead of for yourself.

Finally, be encouraged to talk to your pastor or a Christian counselor. There may also be a centre for unwed mothers in your area. Most importantly, is the need for you to regularly attend a good church for encouragement, spiritual growth and Christian fellowship. For referral to a church, please contact the Crossroads Ministry Centre nearest you.

As You Pray

Pray for God's grace and courage to face all that you must face. Praise and thank Him for accepting and forgiving you. And thank Him for giving you grace to forgive yourself and anyone else who may be involved in the situation, such as the child's father.
